3.3 Borosilicate Glass Composition

These test tubes are produced from Type 3.3 borosilicate glass, conforming to ISO 3585 specifications. The glass composition contains approximately 80.6% SiO₂, 12.6% B₂O₃, 4.0% Na₂O+K₂O, and 2.2% Al₂O₃ by weight. This formulation results in a linear coefficient of thermal expansion of 3.3 × 10⁻⁶/K (20-300°C range).

Chemical Resistance and pH Stability

Type 3.3 borosilicate glass demonstrates resistance to water, acids, and neutral solutions per ISO 719 (hydrolytic class HGB 1) and ISO 1776 (acid class 1). Alkali resistance meets ISO 695 class A2 requirements. Leached alkali content remains below 100 μg Na₂O per gram of glass surface under standard extraction conditions, which contributes to pH stability for stored aqueous samples.

Maximum Operating Temperature

Borosilicate glass test tubes support continuous operation at temperatures up to 350°C. Short-term exposure may reach 500°C for limited-duration heating procedures. All tubes undergo a controlled annealing process at approximately 560°C to reduce internal residual stress.

Thermal Shock Resistance Performance

Thermal shock resistance is measured by the temperature difference (ΔT) that the glass can withstand without fracture when rapidly cooled. Type 3.3 borosilicate glass withstands a thermal shock differential of approximately 210°C. This property supports direct heating over open flames and subsequent handling at room temperature.
